6 Best Oil Treatments Agianst Dandruff


Just like skin, scalp pH and moisture also varies from person to person. Dandruff usually occurs due to dry skin. It may occur due to eczema, psoriasis and fungal diseases as well. However, the most common reason is dry scalp. Everyone gets it once in a while, especially in winters. Following are a few dandruff treatments that you can opt for to get rid of those white flakes.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has amazing benefits mostly related to skin. It treats eczema in general thus also works for dandruff. You can add tea tree oil to your normal oil and massage it all over your scalp at least twice a week to treat dandruff. You can also add tea tree oil to your normal shampoo to get rid of dandruff.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is so far the most used oil treatment froe dandruff at homes. All you need to do is massage your scalp with coconut oil and let it sit for an hour or two. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Do this daily till you are sure that no dandruff is left on your scalp. You can also use shampoos with coconut oil in them. Coconut oil in general is an amazing moisturizer for skin, so it works for your hair and scalp too.

3. Olive Oil

Olive oil has a lot of benefits and you should have it in your cupboard already. Just in case you don’t, now is the time. Olive oil works amazingly for dandruff. Massage your scalp with olive oil and then leave it overnight. You can wear a shower cap or just cover your hair with a cloth. The warmth helps absorb the oil and it works better that way. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo in the morning. Do this twice or thrice a week to treat dandruff.

4. Olive Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar

This treatment is just a rinse in olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Wet your hair completely and the rinse your hair with this mixture. Massage your scalp and then leave it on for about half an hour. Use a mild shampoo to wash your hair. This will treat dandruff in just one go.

5. Jojoba Oil

Normally people do not use jojoba oil at homes, so invest into one if you really need to get rid of the dandruff. Jojoba oil is one of the natural oils that are somewhat similar to the oil secreted by your scalp which maintains the moisture. All you need to do is warm up the oil a little and apply it all over your scalp with your fingertips. Once you are done with that, give yourself a good head massage. This will balance out the pH and also treat dandruff. Wash your hair after 45 minutes with a mild shampoo.

6. Neem Oil

Neem oil is not easily available in stores, but consider yourself lucky if you get your hand on it. Mix 1 teaspoon of neem oil and coconut oil each. Warm it up a little so that you see it completely mixed. Apply it all over your scalp and then massage it. Neem oil is quite strong and is very beneficial. It will kill fungus and any parasite that might have caused the dandruff. After you are done massaging your hair for 5 to 10 minutes, wrap your hair in a towel to keep them warm. Wash your hair after 45 minutes with a sulfate-free shampoo.
